Announcements: This week’s Newsletter will be a Hybrid –  Newsletter/Board Meeting report.  We only had about 19 members show up,  no SOD or a Program.  On that note, we decided to combine the regular meeting with the Board Meeting (a tricky way to get everyone to attend the BM [no pun intended]).

The clubs Chairman, Pat McKim, opened the Board Meeting and Bob Buckland presided since he was acting President filling in for Gary Athey.

Dick Enslow made a motion that last month’s minutes be approved. Passed.  Most committee chairmen had no reports with the exception of Mason and Enslow. Masons report was heard by all in attendance and a copy will be given to the Secretary when he returns, along with today’s attendance slips.

First of all, a vote was taken and by a margin of 17 to 2, we decided to allow Women into the club, should they be interested in joining.  On that note, Pat McKim sponsored Alice Perkins to be our first female member and gave her an application.  Before you could say “welcome”, she had the app filled out and submitted with a check.   Normally we would publish a perspective member twice, and then take a vote.  I think all that can be waived because if we don’t know her by now, we never will.  So on that note, I take it upon myself to welcome Alice to the club.

Following on the above, we discussed the idea of other clubs merging we our club, not necessarily another Sertoma club.  The only stipulation would be they merge any assets into our programs such as our Foundation or Sponsorship.  They would also be totally governed by Arapahoe Sertoma laws and bylaws….in other words, they become us.  This may be a great was to save our club and theirs at the same time.  It was requested that the Secretary send letters to clubs inviting them to merge with us.  This will be fine-tuned in the near future.

Another change we voted on was to shorten the meetings a little so maybe new people that can’t take the full amount of time off at lunch as we have in the past,  1-1/2 hours can attend.  We decided to alternate a SOD one week, a Program the next week and so on.  This would make it easier to get programs and relieve us members of being SOD as often.  We will work on this schedule since we have several programs already scheduled but if your name is in the SOD list below, be ready if a Program is a no show for now.

Flyer and sign-up sheet was passed out by Orian for the upcoming Dual Dist. Leadership Conference and Awards Luncheon Saturday, Sep 29.  It appears Dick Mason and Rick Jacobus we be attending this club funded event.  Thanks to both for stepping up.

Rick Jacobus read a letter from Scott Pflzgraff   of BSA Troop 263.  He is going for Eagle Scout.  To become an Eagle Scout, he has to complete a set of badge requirements, as well as a plan and execute a service project designed to help others.   Veterans’ causes are something of great importance to him, his father recently survived throat cancer that was likely caused by prolonged exposure to burn pits during his nearly yearlong deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.  His grandfather was a Vietnam Veteran and was diagnosed with service-related ALS, he passed away in 2012.

Scott’s project is to buy the Warrior Avs a new trailer for carrying their gear.  Warrior Avs is a hockey team comprised of Veterans from Colorado Springs and the Denver area.  All of the members of the team have physical disabilities as a result of their injuries.  A new trailer after being retrofitted will allow the members better storage but also better access into the trailer, sometimes in a wheelchair.

He is looking for donations of approximately $7,000.   Arapahoe Sertoma Sponsorship voted to donate $500 and the Foundation voted to donate another $500 to Scott.

A committee of Mason, Manley & Buckland, with the help of the whole club, will try to come up with something to raffle, such as a Best Buy Gift Card.  A committee of McKim, Jacobus & Harder will work on a Poker Night.

The Board adjourned at 1:10pm, next meeting Oct. 11, 2018

The Foundation still has a Cemetery plot & Burial Vault at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial.  Contact Carl or Tim if interested.  When I get the link for Craig’s list I will send it out.

Last week’s winners of the Bronco’s pool were  Laudermilk, Manley, Magee & Alice.
