Guests:   Vicky Oren, Rev. Robinson’s LSC

FINES:  Schillo & Vierthaler for making too much noise.

Foundation News:   Tim reported that The Foundation is making a donation to Doctors Care.   Also Tim said the Foundation needs a new member because Jim Rees is leaving to move to Arizona at the end of the month.  Scott Manley jumped on the chance so the Foundation Board is full again.  Thanks Scott, you be the man.

The Foundation still has a cemetery plot or two for sale. They are located at Chapel Hill Cemetery. If interested, contact one of the Foundation members or me and I will forward your contact to one of them.   You can view more details on Craig’s list, click here.

Announcements: Randy Smith filled in for Pat today.

Orian talked to Alice Perkins to see what’s up with Jim and she said he hasn’t been doing to good the last couple weeks and now they think he may have pneumonia.  Let’s keep Jim in our thoughts.

As mentioned above, Jim Rees is leaving us to move to Arizona.  Jim has been a good and faithful member since February 2005 and will be missed.  We did get him to be the SOD…See below.

Doug asked if anyone had any old blankets or coats (new will work) that can be donated to the poor of Arapahoe Co.  Some of the students at Englewood H.S. are collecting them to be given out so if you have anything….anything at all, bring them to lunch next week again.  After further conversation with Doug, the items are going to the poor/homeless people living by the river.  Anything warm will do.

Dave Miley passed around a sign-up sheet for the April 13th K1 Speed go-kart races.  Cost is $50 per person but the club gets a percentage of that back.  Invite anyone you want, Miley & Co. is buying the pizza.  There is a height restriction so if you are too short, you may not be able to drive.  Right now the sign-up sheet looks like it needs some more names.

Dick Mason has new King Soopers cards for $25.  The club receives %5 back when you use them but don’t let the amount on them get to zero or the card is no good and you would have to buy another one.  You can add more value to the cards, just ask Dick.

The Raffle web pages have been approved by the State so tickets will go on sale via the web and by hand.  For all the details, read up on them so you can answer any questions your friends, relatives, and neighbors may have.  Hard Tickets can be purchased at the May sale on May 19th or 20th. Web site tickets will go on sale March 23, 2018 and online sales will end on May 15, 2018. Sign up early and let your friends know about these great trips.  Get an e-mail list ready to send out, it’s up to us to advertise as much as we can.

New Web link…    Karie’s business is  and she built the web page for A1scuba

Put your thinking caps on and come up with ideas for programs.  Our Directors are running out of ideas.  Also, how about some club events?  Miley mentioned one at Top Golf.  Any other ideas?  We have the K-1 go-cart event next month with a sing-up sheet maybe next week.  Don won’t be there (he will be in Utah driving his BIG buggy) so someone else will have a chance to win…..Maybe even Pat this year but he may want to go practice first.

Sertoman of the Day:   Jim Rees was born in Springfield, Illinois on 14 June 1933, but was raised in Bloomington.  He went to the Univ. of Illinois for 4-1/2 years.  While there he got a draft notice and because he was in the Air Force ROTC program he was allowed to continue provided he graduated, otherwise the Army had a rifle for him.  Graduated and in May of 1956, started pilot training in Arizona.  Shortly after finishing that part of his training, the Air Force closed the base.  Two days after receiving his wings he married Jo in Fort Worth, Texas. The balance of his flight training was at Goodfellow AFB it was closed to major flight operations.  In Sacramento he flew RC-121 radar planes.

He left the service in July 1960 and went to work for Underwood-Olivetti and in 1962 moved to Denver for 6 months then to Colorado Springs as branch manager.  They closed that office and he moved back to Denver to work for Xerox, then was transferred to Houston as a manager.  During which time McClellan AFB in Sacramento was closed to major flying operations.  He moved back to Denver in June of 1969 and got into real estate with a couple of former Xerox friends, then went out on his own and has been since 1975.

Jim and Jo have been married for 58 years; have 2 children, a son and daughter and several grand kids.  Jim was brought into the club my Bob Stein on Feb. 2005, sat on most chairs (except Secretary) and was a President.    Listen to Jim Rees.mp3
