Announcements: Gary Athey started to meeting, his first as the new President of the club (and maybe for many more years…). For a list of Officers, see past Newsletters.
While we were eating, Gary had a slide show of the photos he took from the Installation Dinner held last week. He also had made DVD’s of the photos and passed one out to all members.
Put your thinking caps on and come up with ideas for programs. Our Directors are running out of ideas. Also, how about some club events? Miley mentioned one at Top Golf.
Sertoman of the Day: Mike thought that everyone had heard his story so many times in the past that he would talk about the trip he and Barbara took last month. They went back to the Indiana area and toured a few spots they had nave been to before. Listen to his audio for all the details.
Mike Magee completed his education at the University of Colorado. 1989 was a big year for Mike as he began two major commitments. He married Barbara and joined Arapahoe Sertoma. He feels both were good choices. Between them they currently have 4 kids and 7 grand kids. Mike was brought into the club by Mabe Downey – no indication that Mabe also brought Mike to Barbara.
Mike Magee was born 1939 in Houston but grew up in Chicago starting at about age 2. He can remember looking out his window and seeing the Troop Trains. He went to school in the Chicago area, then came out to C.U. in 1957, got a degree in marketing, then went back to Chicago and sold shoes for 9 years with the Florshiem Shoe Co. He liked Denver so well he came back and tried selling shoes here. He got tired of the flying and driving back and forth with the shoe business so he got into real estate back in 1972, then later with his wife, Barb.
Mike reviewed is early work experiences involving Selling flower seeds, setting bowling pins, and washing cars as a youngster, In College he sold clothes in various stores while attending night school at Cu.
Mike had no military because he was in school. He has held many positions in the club and has just nailed down some details for this year’s Christmas party. Listen to Mike Magee.mp3
Program: Gary introduced member Clarke Bennett who gave a presentation on Greyhound dogs. Clarke and his wife ended up rescuing / adopting 2 dogs after their previous dog passed away. Gary had suggested for Clarke to talk to Dave Miley about Greyhounds and that sold Clarke on looking into them as pets and they are very happy with that decision. Clarke has done a lot of research on the history of Greyhounds and the racing industry.
